Warning of stern actions against any attempts to disrupt academic atmosphere on campus, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Akhteruzzaman has reitarated that a fresh election to the central students' union (DUCSU) was not possible .
“I cannot disrespect the hard work of the 450 teachers and employees who worked to make the polls successful,” he told the media on Wednesday (Mar 13) after meeting with a delegation of five panels that took part in the polls.
He said that the DUCSU polls took place after 28 long years under the “transparent monitoring” of the employees.
“Attempt to disrespect or nullify their hard work will not be tolerated.”
“The university won’t tolerate any attempts to disrupt the peaceful academic atmosphere,” he added.
The DUCSU election was marred by clashes, attacks on candidates and allegations of irregularities and vote rigging.
Opposition panels led protests and called for strike, demanding a fair re-election.
A delegation comprising of members of five panels that contested the polls and the new Vice President-elect Nurul Haque Nur met with the VC and handed him a memorandum of their demands.
