In the history of Dhaka University, ruling party backed student wing never won vice-president or general secretary post in the DUCSU election. Even, in one or two cases the student wing of ruling party bagged one or two posts in the election.
But this is the first time Chhatra League bagged 23 out of 25 central posts and also won most VP, GS and AGS posts in 18 hall unions.
This is why the ruling party considers this as an overwhelming victory.
Awami League Presidium member Mohammad Nasim termed the victory as ‘unprecedented’.
The students of Dhaka University are conscious and they supported the initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said.
AL leader Abdur Rahman said it is unfortunate to lose the post of VP.
“I feel that there was lack of unity and effort centering around this post,” he said.
The polls to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), held after a long gap of 28 years, have been tainted with allegations of widespread irregularities and rigging.
