Nearly 100 held in Hazaribagh, Karwan Bazar drug raids

Police said a total of 150 people were detained from Hazaribagh and 55 of them were released after background checks.Amid the on-going countrywide crackdown on drugs, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 97 people on Sunday.
Methamphetamine-based yaba, phensedyl, cannabis and local spirit have been seized during two separate raids in the city’s Hazaribagh and Karwan Bazar.
“We had taken in 105 people from Hazaribagh, but 55 of them were released after background checks while the rest, including four women will be prosecuted,” Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Hel Kafi of DMP’s Dhanmondi zone told Bangla Tribune.
He said over 350 yaba tablets, 29 bottles of phensedyl, 1 kg cannabis and 1,500 litres of local spirit have been confiscated during the raid at Hazaribagh’s Ganaktuli area.
A facility used to manufacture spirit in Ganaktuli was shut down during the raid, added senior DMP official Kafi.
The DMP’s media wing said that 47 people were detained during the raid at Karwan Bazar, but did not provide any other detail.
