The State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid MalekIf any hospital authorities perform caesarean operation of any expecting mother despite the fact that she is not fit, the hospital will be closed in addition to being fined.

The State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek has warned the hospital authorities while addressing a press briefing at the secretariat on Sunday (May 27).

Observing that the number of cesarean operations is increasing at an alarming rate in the country, he said the 70-80 percent cesarean operations in private clinics is very alarming for safe maternity, and a matter of grave concern.

“According to World Health Organisation, it is supposed to be 15 percent at best. In public hospitals, the percentage (of cesarean operation) is 25 to 30,” he added.

He, however, assured that the government has taken initiatives to control the bad practice.

“As part of the initiatives, the government has sent a form to the hospitals and clinics in the country. The form will contain the information of an expecting mother and it would confirm if the mother really needs cesarean operation or not. If irregularities found, the government will be shut the institutions,” said the state minister.
