Strike at Private hospitals in Chattaogram withdrawn

Private hospitals and clinics in Chattogram have resumed services on Monday after calling off a strike announced the previous day.

On Sunday, they stopped providing services to new patients following RAB-led raids in at least three hospitals, when the Max Hospital, facing allegations of medical malpractice leading to a child's death was penalised for other irregularities.

Services resumed at hospitals and clinics from 12pm on Monday,
On Monday at around 12 pm, the strike was withdrawn, President of Private Hospital and Lab Owners' Association Abul Kashem told Bangla Tribune.
“The strike has been called off following assurances from the administration. Doctors will be available in the private hospitals and medical centres and diagnostic centres will resume the services”, he said.

On Jun 28, Chattaogram-based journalist Rubel Khan’s daughter Rafida Khan Raifa was admitted to the city's Max Hospital with cold and throat ache. The three-year-old died while undergoing treatment the next day.
Amid allegations of negligence and wrong treatment by the family an inquiry led by the civil surgeon was formed.

The probe found all three doctors guilty of negligence and recommended steps against them.
It said they found lack of experience and sincerity among the doctors when the girl began experiencing the intense seizures.
Though the nurses attending her were sincere in their efforts, they did not have the capacity or knowledge to handle the situation, it added.

On Sunday, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim instructed the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council to take steps against the negligent doctors.
