RaifaChattogram’s Max Hospital has relieved two doctors from their duties after allegations of negligence surfaced against them causing the death of a three-year-old girl.
Max Hospital Managing Director Dr Liakat Ali Khan said on Saturday that Debashish Sengupta and Shubhra have been taken off from duty.
The move comes after a probe panel led by the civil surgeon said on Friday that they have found that doctors had been negligent in their duties.
“They are yet to be fired. We had also opened an inquiry and the findings have been submitted. We are scheduled for a meeting today,” Khan told Bangla Tribune.
Chattogram-based Journalist Rubel Khan’s daughter Rafia Khan Raifa died on June 29 at Max Hospital while undergoing treatment of cold and sore throat.
Later, Rubel alleged that Rafia died due to negligence and wrong treatment at the privately-run hospital.
A three-member probe committee, headed by Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Azizur Rahman Siddique, was formed by the Health Ministry afterwards to investigate the allegations.
At a media briefing on Friday, the probe panel said all three doctors were guilty of negligence and recommended that proceedings be initiated against them.
According to the report, a lack of experience and sincerity was noted among the doctors when Raifa began experiencing the intense seizures.
Though the nurses attending her were sincere in their efforts, they did not have the capacity or knowledge to handle the situation, it added.
