Ctg’s Max Hospital slapped Tk 10m fine for irregularities.Chattogram’s Max Hospital, which has recently sacked two doctors for negligence leading to child’s death, has been fined by Tk 10 million for a number of irregularities following a raid by RAB on Sunday.
RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam led the raid accompanied by Directorate General of Health Services’ representative Dewan Mahmud Mehedi Hasan and Drug Administration’s Gulshan Jahan.
The inspection team examined the chemicals at the biochemistry lab, medicines, the hospital’s documents and appointment letters for the staff, RAB Senior Assistant Director Mimtanur Rahman said.
An hour after the raid unfolded, Executive Magistrate Alam briefed the media, when he said that they found several irregularities.
The licence of the pharmacy expired two years ago, he said before adding: “The hospital sends various disease samples outside for tests, which they are supposed to in its own facility. The authorities do not issue appointment letters for the doctors and nurses working here.”
RAB raid at Max HospitalOn Jun 28, Chattaogram-based journalist Rubel Khan’s daughter Rafida Khan Raifa was admitted to the hospital with a throat ache. The three-year-old died while undergoing treatment the next day.
Amid allegations of negligence and wrong treatment an inquiry led by civil surgeon was formed.
Later, Rubel alleged that Rafia died due to negligence and wrong treatment at the privately-run hospital.
The probe found all three doctors guilty of negligence and recommended steps against them.
It said they found lack of experience and sincerity among the doctors when the girl began experiencing the intense seizures.
Though the nurses attending her were sincere in their efforts, they did not have the capacity or knowledge to handle the situation, it added.
On Sunday, RAB raided two more hospitals in the port city. In angry reactions, private hospital owners have announced an indefinite halt to services for patients.
