The students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) are continuing protests, demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, a day after a Bangladesh Chhatra League attack left 25 injured on campus.
Protesters gathered on campus around 10:30am on Wednesday, bringing out a procession from the old Arts building of the institution. The procession then passed through all the female residential halls.
They also condemned the attack on protesters, which left 25 people, including eight teachers were injured on Tuesday (Nov 5).
Following the attack, the authorities shut-down the university indefinitely and the students were asked to leave the dormitories by 4: 30 pm.
A spot visit to the dormitories showed that most of the female students have already vacated the residential halls, while some were seen leaving this morning.
However, some residential halls for male are still occupied mostly by BCL members.
The attack also led to four teachers of the university resigning from the executive board of Jahangirnagr University Teachers’ Association (JUTA).
VC Islam, against whom there are allegations of graft, termed the attack as a “mass uprising,” and thanked the BCL men for “freeing” her.
