Investigation into the pushing of the principal of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute into a pond following humiliation has brought out to the open a list of nefarious acts plaguing the institute. Students claim that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) workers and activists are engaged in manipulating tenders, sexual harassment, extortion and other vile deeds.
In addition, any student who takes a stance against them is reportedly taken to room 1119 to be tortured.
If girl students refuse offers of romance from a BCL leader, the result is harassment. Reportedly, the network of vice is given tacit support by BCL’s Polytechnic branch president Mehedi Hassan and general secretary Rashedul Islam while joint secretary Kamal Hossain Shourav is directly involved.
A student says that about a year ago, a teacher from the English department was assaulted and then forced into the pond.Rajshahi city BCL president Rocky Kumar Ghosh, said: “After looking at the CCTV footage, we managed to identify one person; we are investigating to find if others are related to this incident or not; if needed firm action will be taken against the perpetrators.”
Meanwhile, police could not arrest any of the eight persons mentioned in the case involving the recent manhandling of the principal. Though nine persons have already been detained by the law. The police have asked for remand of the arrested.
ASP Golam Ruhul Kuddus, said: “We arrested nine persons after they were seen in CCTV footage; everyone will be brought under law.”
On Saturday (Nov 2), the principal of the Polytechnic, Farid Uddin Ahmed, was forced into the pond by BCL workers and activists. In this incident, a case was lodged at the Chnadrima thana against 50 persons.
In this incident, central BCL expelled joint secretary of Polytechnic branch of BCL, Kamal Hossain Shourav.
