The incident was reported on Tuesday (Nov 5) from in front of the residence of VC Farzana Islam where the students and teachers were staging demonstrations.
Protesting teacher Professor Tareq Reza of JU Bangla department said that eight teachers have been injured in the attack.
“First a group of teachers on the vice chancellor’s side attacked the protesters. They sent Chhatra League activists after they failed,” said JU professor Raihan Rain, another protester.
Condemning the attack, he demanded that the vice chancellor who has been accused of graft, be removed from her post.
Responding to queries on the matter, BCL’s JU unit President Md Jewel Rana said that there are allegations of Shibir affiliations against the protesters. “We want a Shibir-free campus.”
The university’s acting Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hassan said that they have failed to prevent the clash but were “alert to avoid any major incident.”
