The BNP secretary general broke down in tears on Monday (Nov 26), when he began to distribute letters of initial confirmation to candidates who will compete for the party in the 11th parliamentary election.
Lament the absence of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that an atmosphere for free and fair polls lacks. “But still, we are taking part in the election.”
An emotional Mirza Fakhrul prayed for the party chief’s release from jail and said, “May the election restore democracy and the right to vote in the country.”
The first nomination paper handed over was for Khaleda at the Bogura 6 and 7 constituencies.
BNP chief’s Adviser Helaluzzaman Lalu and the party’s Bogura unit chief Saiful Islam received the confirmation letter on behalf of Khaleda.
The nomination letters are being handed out from the BNP chief’s Gulshan offices.
