Police have been granted two days to quiz BNP Central Executive Committee leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan on charges of sabotaging the Gazipur City Corporation election.
He was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court on Wednesday in a case filed with the Dhanmondi police.
The court has also remanded three others – Md Shafiqul Islam, Zinnat and Md Asad Ali for one day each, said court police’s General Register Officer Moqbul Hossain.
He added that police had sought seven days remand for the suspects. Mizan’s counsel Sanaullah Mia moved a bail petition.
A retired Bangladesh Army major, Mizan was picked up by detectives from his home in Dhaka’s Gulshan early on Tuesday after audio clips of his phone conversations were leaked on the internet.
Dhaka Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman told Bangla Tribune the same day that Mizan was accused in multiple cases.”He has been arrested on charges of sabotaging the Gazipur election.”
