The High Court (HC) on Wednesday fixed Jul 3 for the hearing on the appeal filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging a lower court verdict that sentenced her to five-year imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed the date after holding the hearing of both sides.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali and Advocate Zainul Abedin stood for Khaleda Zia while lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan for Anti-Corruption Commission. Besides, Deputy Attorney General Forhad Ahmed appeared for the state.
On February 8, the Special Judge's Court-5 of Dhaka convicted and sentenced Khaleda to five years’ imprisonment guilty in the corruption case.
The court also sentenced Khaleda's eldest son and BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and four others to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment, and fined Tk 2.10 crores each.
On Jun 24, the Anti Corruption Commission prayed for a hearing on the appeal following the top court's order on the graft case.
