Khulna Railway Police StationThe family of the woman who was allegedly gang raped by Khulna Railway policemen including its OC, claim to have received threats.
The family met the investigative committee and talked at length on the matter. Meanwhile, lawyers are taking preparations to apply for the woman’s bail.
Due to the delay in giving the forensic report, human rights activists are planning to lodge a case against members of the law enforcers.
Over the incident, two police officials have been withdrawn and sub inspector Asim Kumar Das have been withdrawn and attached to police lines.
The elder sister of the woman in question, said: “We are being threatened but the investigation committee has assured us that the perpetrators will be punished.”
My sister was falsely framed in a drug carrying case, she said.
Khulna coordinator of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Agency, advocate Mominul Islam, observes: “since no legal step can be taken without the forensic report, we are applying for the woman’s bail, who was mistreated on a concocted case.”
Preparations have also been taken to lodge a case against the accused police officers under the women repression act.
Head of the investigation committee, ASP Firoj Ahmed, said: “we talked to the relatives of the victim on Wednesday and will talk to them again on Thursday; the OC of the thana and a sub inspector have been closed over the matter; we will now try to find out the person (s) giving threat to the family.”
On 2 August, a housewife was arrested by GRP police while she was coming to Khulna from Jessore on a train on charges of mobile theft. The next day, she was produced before court in a case implicating her with five bottles of Phensidyl.
On 4 August, during the bail hearing, the woman claimed she was a victim of gang rape at the GRP thana.
She alleges that the OC Osman Gani and four other police members raped her; later, at the court’s order, a medical test was done on her and a probe committee was formed at the order of Pakshi railway police SP Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
It’s believed that evidence of negligence was found against accused police officers.
