The ferry services resumed around 9am on Thursday (Aug 8) on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in Munshiganj.After nearly 22 hours of suspension, ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in Munshiganj, have resumed.
The ferry services resumed around 9am on Thursday (Aug 8), easing traffic congestion of hundreds of vehicles waiting in queue to cross the river.
"Six ferries have been operating since the early hours of Thursday,” Assistant General Manager of Shimulia Port of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC) Nasir Muhammad Chowdhury said.
Inclement weather is increasing the suffering of homebound people taking the water route during Eid holidays.
"The long queue of vehicles will not reduce until ferry services are fully operational again," Mawa traffic police In-Charge Helal Uddin said.
Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Aug 12. Public holiday will be observed from Aug 11 to 13 for Eid.
