Suborna Akter Nodi secretly married Rajib Hossain, son of noted wealthy businessman, Abul Hossain. The father in law never accepted Suborna as his daughter in law and forced his son to divorce Nodi.
He also threatened to kill her, said Suborna’s mother Morjina Begum.
Local sources say that since Suborna’s first husband was addicted, the marriage ended in divorce in 2009. At that time, Suborna and her child were helpless. Undaunted, she began her education and, in 2015, met Rajib, which developed into romance. Then, on 6 June, 2016, they secretly got married, but when the news came out of their matrimony, Rajib’s parents were furious.
Rajib’s father forced his son to divorce Suborna. But to get the right of the legally wedded wife, Suborna sat in a hunger strike in front of Rajib’s home. Later, Rajib’s father, with the help of police and his minions, removed her.
At this time, Abul Hossain gave death threats to Suborna and allegedly said, he would lodge a case against her.
But Suborna went to the thana to lodge her own case which was not accepted by the then OC, Abdur Razzak. Later, Suborna held a press conference at the Pabna media council.
When Suborna went to Rajib’s home once more, she was again physically assaulted and handed over to the police.
To get her rights, Suborna then went to court and lodged a case.
“After marriage, Rajib used to come and stay at our home and gave monthly expenses,” said Morjina Begun, adding: “Rajib said he would reason with his parents and, eventually, create a favourable atmosphere for Morjina.”
Rajib’s elder sister, Shapla Khatun says: “Suborna forced my brother to marry her; she was married before and has a child; we did not accept the marriage since the background of two families will not blend.”
My father is being implicated through a conspiracy, she added.
On 28 August, Tuesday, Suborna was hacked indiscriminately in front of her home by unknown assailants; later, she was declared dead at the Pabna General Hospital.
Suborna is the Pabna correspondent of private TV channel, Ananda TV and editor, publisher of online news portal, Dainik Jagroto Bangla.
Suborna’s mother lodged a case, accusing Abul Hossain and six others. On Wednesday, police arrested Abul Hossain, owner of Simla Hospital and Diagnostic Centre and medicine manufacturing company Idral Pharma.
