Sammilita Samajik Andolan (SSA) has called for Tk 100 million in compensation for the wrongly accused Tangail’s Jahalam on Saturday (Feb 9).An organisation known as the Sammilita Samajik Andolan (SSA) has called for Tk 100 million in compensation for the wrongly accused Tangail’s Jahalam, who was imprisoned for three years.

The organisation held a human chain in front of the National Museum in the capital’s Shahbagh on Saturday (Feb 9) morning to press for the demand.

“The ruling government has announced zero tolerance against any kinds of corruption. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has wrongfully deprived the innocent Jahalam and his family and friends of three years of life. ACC didn’t match the documents with Jahalam, rather he was socially harassed only facial match between the original accused. The decision of the honourable High Court to free him will be remembered in the annals of freedom and humanity,” said Dhaka University Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Associate Professor Robaet Ferdous at the protest.

“We believe that the ACC should pay Tk 100 million in damages for the inhuman treatment and deprivation he underwent in these three years,” he added.

Sammilita Samajik Andolan President Ziauddin Ali Tarek said, “The state and the ACC cannot avoid being held accountable for this merciless and inhumane behavior against Jahalam.”

“We demand that these offences against him be remedied.”

Jahalam, who had worked at a jute mill in Narsingdi, was recently released after spending three years in jail.

It has been proven that ACC officials had identified the wrong suspect in the case.
