This is the highest number of Dengue patients in the country’s history.
This month, in a matter of five days, the number of patients has increased by five folds.
Health Emergency Operations and Control Room states that Dengue patients are rising outside Dhaka. The control room information states that in January, 37 were affected by Dengue which has risen to more than 15,000 in July.
Assistant director of Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room, Dr. Ayesha Akhtar, observes: in 2018, 10,138 got admitted to different hospitals and this year’s number has exceeded that; also Dengue has evolved so people are a bit confused as to the symptoms.”
Former director of disease detection and research body, IEDCR, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, says: “Unless there is increased awareness about waste management, controlling Dengue will be difficult.”
In the past, a Dengue patient showed lowering of platelets but now, many are going directly into shock syndrome, he warned.
