Combination of photos shows Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and his Indian counterpart Amit Shah.Indian Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to raise the issue illegal migrants with his Bangladeshi counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan, when the two are expected to meet in New Delhi next month, reports Indian media.
Delhi is keen to ink a deportation deal with Dhaka after about 4 million people have been left out of Assam's National Register of Citizens, according to the Economic Times.
Khan is expected to visit India on Aug 7 and Shah is likely to hold six rounds of parleys with him, says the report.
The discussions will also include cross-border smuggling, fake Indian currency, Indian insurgent groups and the Rohingya crisis, the Economic Times says citing officials familiar with the matter.
Khan and Shah will represent their countries in the first bilateral talks between India and Bangladesh following general elections in the two countries.
According to Economic times, the two leaders will also discuss the recent Sri Lanka bombings, keeping in mind the threat posed by global terrorist groups such as Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
“Shah will urge his Bangladeshi counterpart to take action against groups like Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh [JMB], which is suspected of having close links with al-Qaeda,” reads the report.
India’s home ministry recently banned JMB for trying to recruit youths from bordering states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam on social media.
Officials said the delegation level talks would also be attended by top internal security officials of India and Bangladesh.
