Water transport services suspended as Bangladesh braces for 'Fani'

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Thursday (May 2) suspended water transport services on all routes across the country due to the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ that is likely to hit Bangladesh by Friday (May 3) evening.
The directive was made effective from 11am, Thursday until further notice.
“The BIWTA has suspended the plying of all sorts of vessels and asked all to remain in safe shelter until further notice,” BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mobarak Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
The authorities also suspended leaves of its all officials and employees to tackle the imminent natural disaster, he said.
