'Fani' likely to hit Bangladesh Friday, maritime ports to hoist signal 7

‘Fani’ draws nearerMaritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist danger signal no seven as severe cyclonic storm “Fani” draws nearer. It's likely to make landfall in Bangladesh on Friday (May 3).
According to a met office weather bulletin on Thursday (May 2), coastal districts of Bhola, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars will also come under danger signal number seven.
Meanwhile, maritime port of Chattogram has been advised to lower local warning signal no four and hoist danger signal nubmer six.
The coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will also come under danger signal number six.
Maritime ports of Cox’s Bazar have been advised to keep hoisted local warning signal number four.
The cyclone over the Westcentral bay and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards and as of 9 am Thursday (May 2) was centred about 1065 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1025 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 915 km southwest of mongla port and 925 km southwest of payra port.
It is likely to intensify further, move in a north-northeasterly direction, cross Odisha coast of India and then move north-northeasterly direction further and reach khulna and adjoining southwestern part of Bangldesh by Friday (May 3) evening.
Khulna and adjoining southwestern coastal region of Bangladesh will experience the peripheral effect of the very severe cyclonic storm “fani” by the morning of Friday (May 3).
Maximum sustained wind speed within 74 kms of the storm centre is about 160 Kph rising to 180 kph in gusts/ squalls.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter immediately and will remain in shelter till further notice.
