Firefighters attempt to extinguish a fire at a multi-storey commercial building in Dhaka, Bangladesh, March 28, 2019.Authorities have released the bodies of 24 victims killed in Thursday's (Mar 28) Banani Fire.

“So far, 25 bodies have been recovered from FR Tower. Among them, 24 have been identified and handed over to their respective families,” Gulshan police Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed told the media around 9.30am on Friday (Mar 29).

Due to complications over identity, the body of Ahmed Zafar, 59, was not handed over. He is the son of Helaluddin from Narayanganj. His body was taken to DMCH morgue by Banani police Sub Inspector Faridul.
The body will be handed over after an autopsy, said Gulshan zone Senior Assistant Commissioner Rafiqul Islam.

The fire broke out at the multi-storey ‘FR Tower’ on the Kamal Ataturk Avenue in the upmarket commercial area in Dhaka’s Banani around 1pm on Thursday (Mar 28).

It took 25 fire service units over six hours to douse the flame.
