The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has formed a committee to find out the cause behind the fire that broke out at a multi-storey building in Dhaka’s Banani on Thursday (Mar 28)
“Additional Secretary Fazrul Rahman of the ministry will head the eight-member strong panel,” said State Minister for Disaster Dr Enamur Rahman told the media at the lobby of nearby Hotel Sarina.
Other committee members include another additional secretary of the disaster ministry and a member each from public works ministry, police, fire service, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka district administration, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, the minister added.
The minister warned of stern action if “negligence is found after investigation.”
Speaking of another building, which is located just next to the fir-hit building, minister Rahman said, “Action will taken even if negligence from RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha) is found.”
Meanwhile, Fire Services and Civil Defence formed another panel to look into the incident.
“What caused the fire and whether there the building has any faulty fire safety measure can be told after investigation,” said Fire services chief Brigadier General Sazzad Hussain.
