The Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) Vice President-elect Nurul Haque Nur said that he will take oath only if the students want him to.
“I will take oath if the university students want me to. If they don’t I won’t,” he told the media on Wednesday (Mar 13) at Muhsin Hall.
“The students voted for me. They want a re-election and I’m on their side,” he said.
He added that he’s in solidarity with the students’ demands to hold fresh polls to all the DUCSU posts by Mar 31.
Calling for Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) cooperation in maintaining peaceful atmosphere on campus, he said, “We have been humiliated in many ways.”
He said that BCL attacked him as well but he is grateful for his competitor Rezwanul Hoque Shovon’s assurance that they will cooperate with him.
Earlier, Nur had accompanied members of the five DUCSU panels that contested in the polls to the vice chancellor’s office to hand him a memorandum demanding re-election.
Several panels including Chhatra Dal and leftist alliance student bodies boycotted the Mar 11 DUCSU polls alleging vote rigging and irregularities.
