In a memorandum to the Dhaka University vice-chancellor (VC), student panels have given a three-day deadline for announcing the schedule for re-polls to the central students’ union (DUCSU).
After handing it over to the VC along with five panels, Leftist panel leader Liton Nandi said, “The vice chancellor has rejected our demands and said the university will file lawsuit against those trying to create anarchy on the campus.”
Aroni Samonti Khan, leader of the independent panel said: “He [the DU vice chancellor] said strict legal action will be taken against those involved in criminal acts at Dhaka University.
“However, what action has been taken against those who engaged in criminal acts on the campus for the past year? We have given him an ultimatum till Saturday. If our demands are not met, we will intensify our ongoing movement.”
Samonti added that those hindering the students’ rights, must face action. The long-overdue Ducsu and its hall union polls were held on Monday. Nurul Haq Nur, the Quota Reform Movement leader, was elected vice-president (VP) of Ducsu, while Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Golam Rabbani, was elected its general secretary.
Eight of nine secretary posts went to candidates of the Chhatra League panel.
After the results were published, all panels—except that of Chhatra League—rejected the results, alleging irregularities, and demanded a re-run of the election to all the posts—except that of VP and social welfare post—and announced an indefinite boycott of classes.
