The Election Commission says voting in the Khulna City Corporation was being held peacefully ‘apart from one or two sporadic incidents’.
As soon as the voting opened in the morning, the BNP claimed that its polling agents were being forced out from centres by ruling party supporters.
Violence and ballot-stuffing caused the authorities to shut a polling station.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said the election is underway in a free and fair manner. “A polling centre has been shut, but that's an isolated incident.”
On the BNP's allegations of forcing out its representatives from booths, he said the party needs to come up with ‘specific cases.’
“The issue is, whether those who have been made to leave the poling stations are at all polling agents. No one with a proper ID card is allowed,” said Hossain.
