The election to the Khulna City Corporation is being held amid fanfare and festivity, says the ruling Awami League.
“According to media reports and our findings, the polls are going in a festive manner,” Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak.
Speaking to the media at the party chief’s Dhanmondi, he said the BNP has “resorted to false allegations” in a bid to create a controversy. “They have adopted the strategy sensing their defeat in the polls.”
Nanak said the media was witness to a peaceful election, where the people of Khulna have casted their franchise. “We are hopeful of a landslide win of our candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque.”
The KCC went to polls on Tuesday with around half a million voters expected to cast their franchise.
The BNP has already alleged ruling party supporters of forcing out its polling agents from voting centres while authorities scrapped voting at a centre after an incident of booth capturing.
