At least 270 shanties have been gutted as fire broke out at a slum in Chattogram city.
The fire erupted at SRB slum situated beside a railway in Paschim Madarbari area, under Sadarghat police station, of the city around 5:10 am on Monday (Feb 3), said Chattogram Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Farid Ahmed Chowdhury.
However, no casualties have been reported in the fire accident yet.
As many as 14 firefighting vehicles of four units rushed to the scene and doused the fire after over one hour of frantic efforts around 6:30am, said Farid.
Farid said that they were working to discern the reason behind the accident.
“Some 270 shanties have been gutted in the fire. The extent of damage due to the fire accident could not be determined immediately,” he said.
This fire incident is evocative of two other fires in Chattogram slums this year.
On Jan 31, more than hundred shanties were gutted when a slum caught fire at Mirzarpool area in the port city.
Prior to that, on Jan 24, as many as 98 shanties were gutted when a fire broke out at the same slum, originating from a short circuit.
