The 23rd span of the much-awaited Padma Bridge has been installed on Sunday (Feb 2).

With this installation, 3.45-km of the mega structure has now been visible.

The 23rd span among the total 41 was placed between the 31st and the 32nd pillars at the Jajira point of the bridge around 2.45pm, said Humayun Kabir, an assistant engineer of the Padma Bridge Project.

Earlier, the Span 1-E (22nd span) was installed on pillars 5-6 to complete 3.3km of the bridge on Jan 23.

Work on the country’s largest bridge till date started in December 2015. The structure started becoming visible with the installation of 150-metre span on pillars 37 and 38 on Oct 30, 2017.

The 6.15-kilometre bridge will have 41 spans, each 150 metres long.

In October last year, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the construction of the Padma Bridge will be completed by June 2021.
