Three people including a mother and her daughter have been killed after a bus crashed into a battery-run rickshaw in Savar's Ashulia.
The incident took place early on Sunday (Feb 2) in front of National Martyrs' Memorial on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ashulia's Nabinagar, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Maleka Begum, 25, her daughter Fatema and the rickshaw driver Jewel, 40.
Citing family members, police said that a speeding Paturia bound Kaba Paribahan bus rammed the rickshaw leaving the trio critically injured. The locals rushed the victims to Gonoshasthaya Kendra Hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead.
Confirming the incident Ashulia police Sub-Inspector Nurul Huda Bhuiyan said, “Police have seized the bus while the driver managed to flee the scene.”
“The bodies have been kept at the police station,” said SI Bhuiyan before adding, “A case will be started over the incident.”
