International Islamic University Chittagong has been indefinitely shut down amid student protest following a student being assaulted.
In a notice signed by registrar Md Quasem issued on Wednesday (Jan 29), the students were asked to vacate the dormitories by 9 pm that night.
The move comes after the university’s BCL activists reportedly tortured Adnan, a first-year student of Quranic Science and Islamic Studies Department on Tuesday (Jan 28) night at a room in Hazrat Uthman (R) Hall.
On Wednesday, a group of teachers and students staged a human chain demonstration at the university’s Kumira campus in Sitakunda, protesting the “torture and harassment” by BCL on the campus and submitted a memorandum to the authorities.
Later, the university administration issued the notice on Wednesday.
