Key suspect in Ansar member murder killed in Jashore ‘shootout’

Photo shows a police gun barrel.The key suspect in the murder of an Ansar member in Jashore has been killed in what the police described as a shootout.
The incident was reported early on Thursday (Jan 30), Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police Towhidul Islam.
Police have identified the deceased as 29-year-old Jewel, a key suspect in the murder of Ansar member Hossain Ali.
Towhidul Islam said that on Nov 30, last year, Hossain Ali was gunned down in broad daylight in Jashore’s Hashimpur area.
He added that seven people were arrested on Dec 17 and the Detective Branch of Police were trying to catch key suspects Jewel and Munna.
“Jewel was arrested on Tuesday (Jan 30), from Cox’s Bazar. Later Hashimpur area was raided to arrest Munna,” he said.
“Munna and his associated opened fire at the police who fired back,” he said and added that Jewel was shot during the gunfight.
Islam said that Jewel was taken to Jashore General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
He added that two guns and a few rounds of ammunition were seized from the scene.
