An alleged robber has been killed in Chattogram’s Banshkhali Upazila in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.

The incident was reported early on Sunday (Jan 26) from Lotmuni area in the upazila’s Banigram village, said RAB.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Morshed Alam. RAB said he was wanted in over two dozen cases including the killing of 31 fishermen in the Bay of Bengal.

“A group of robbers opened fire on a RAB patrolling team as soon as the law enforcers reached the area early on Sunday. The RAB members had to fire back in self defence which triggered a shootout,” said Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, assistant director (media) of RAB-7.

“Later, a body was found lying on the ground where the other robbers managed to flee the scene,” said Mahmudul Hasan Mamun.

“Four firearms, 19 rounds of ammunition and three machetes were seized from the scene”, he added.
