A member of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was reportedly shot dead by unidentified men in the hill tract district of Khagrachhari’s Panchhari Upazila on Friday (Jan 10).
The victim, identified as Poresh Tripura, was an activist of UPDF for eight years and resided at the upazila’s Moratoli village, where he was killed.
Confirming the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police MM Salah Uddin Nurul Alom said, "The killing was due to internal feud of UPDF.”
According to police, a case was filed and an autopsy was conducted in Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital.
Meanwhile, a media statement of the UPDF alleges "plainclothes law enforcers and terrorists affiliated with them" were behind the killing.
The group has called for protests on Sunday (Jan 12) and a half-day road blockade the next day in the upazila, the media statement added.
