Admission has reportedly been completed at the social science faculty of the Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur without proper investigation of allegations of cheating at the admission exam of B unit.
Teachers have sought the intervention of the University Grants Commission (UGC) into the matter.
General secretary of the teachers’ council, Khairul Alam Sumon has confirmed that a letter has been sent to the UGC.
The complaint states that despite failing in two subjects, Mishkatul Jannat was declared first in the admission test of B unit. She is reported to be the younger sister of a teacher in the English department of the university.
This was published in the media and teachers demanded the suspension of admissions and a proper investigation.
The university’s response was reportedly perfunctory as it suspended the admission of the student in question and formed a committee headed by a trainee teacher.
Reportedly, the VC did not take any step after the incident was brought to his attention. Former president of the university teachers’ association, Dr Tuhin Wadud, said: “We feel that the UGC will take steps in this regard and if we do not get a satisfactory solution then we will try to find one through legal process.”
