The ferry service between Paturia-Daulatdia routes in Padma River has resumed after about 10 hours suspension for dense fog, an official said on Wednesday (Dec 25) morning.
The ferry movement was suspended from 11pm on Tuesday (Dec 24) to 9am on Wednesday due to poor visibility as dense fog blanked the region while all 14 ferries including 7 Ro-Ros waiting to be loaded and unloaded at Paturia ghat and Daulatdia ghat, said Zillur Rahman, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia ghat.
The suspension caused thousands of vehicles including passenger buses, private cars and goods loaded trucks stranded on both the bank of the river Padma, bringing immense sufferings to the travelers, reports BSS.
Dense fog also triggered banning movements of all kinds of engine driven boats and launches, increasing the ordeal of home goers, holiday makers and other travelers with women and children.
DGM Zillur also said after started to move the ferries at 9am sometimes it was stop due to poor visibility due to fog.
Though the ferry service, however, resumed at 9am after being light the fog, bringing normalcy gradually in both the harbor areas, resulting in decreasing pressure of stranded vehicle, the official said adding that it takes time to complete the ferrying all the waiting vehicles.
