A woman in Noakhali has been hospitalised after allegedly being brutally tortured by her husband in front of their child for dowry.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Nilufar Yeasmin Koli who was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital on Monday (Dec 23).
The hospital doctor Nasir Uddin said that she is in critical condition.
Her husband Mosharraf Hossain Ujjal reportedly tied-up their five-year old son before cutting off her hair and burning her with a metal spoon.
According to her family, Ujjal had been abusing Nilufar for dowry ever since they got married in 2009.
Her family had arranged money for him to go abroad but after coming back from Saudi Arabia two months ago, he resumed torturing her.
Nilufar’s family said that he threatened to kill the boy as well after which she escaped to her father’s house with her son.
She was admitted to Kabirhaat Upazila Health Complex first where the doctors referred her to Noakhali General Hospital.
Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police Dipak Jyoty Khisa and Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent Kazi Abdur Rahman termed the incident “barbaric” and assured that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
