Policeman held over ‘passing secret information to India’

Deb Prasad SahaA policeman has been detained for his alleged involvement in passing secret information to neighbouring India.
Benapole port police arrested the suspect Deb Prasad Saha and produced before the court early on Wednesday (Dec 17).
On Dec 15, Benapole port police OC Mamun Khan filed a case of treason accusing Saha.
Jashore Senior Judicial Magistrate Saifuddin Hossain fixed the date for a remand hearing on Thursday (Dec 19) and sent Saha to jail after police sought a ten-day remand for him.
According to case documents, Saha served as a constable at Benapole Immigration Department from Dec 27, 2014 to Aug 17, 2018. He used to cross the border and deliver secret information to two Indian policemen named S Chakrabarty and Pintu.
Later in 2018, Saha allegedly delivered secret information through a pendrive. Fifteen days later, he delivered another pendrive containing important information to Chakrabarty and Pintu.
On Oct 25, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Soldier Shahnewaz Shahin from a hotel in Kamalapur area of Dhaka.
The law enforcement members recovered a pen drive filled with confidential information who has been accused of delivering secret information to India as well.
The matter was later investigated by a committee constituted by the police headquarters. The inquiry revealed that Shahin had conversations with India Superintendent of police Abdullah Aref and transferred information from Bangladesh to India through analysing the video CD.
