2.85km of Padma Bridge visible with 19th span installed

The 19th span of the much-awaited Padma Bridge has been installed on Wednesday (Dec 18) afternoon.
With this installation, 2.85-km of the mega structure has now been visible.
The 19th span among total 41 was placed between the 21th and the 22th pillars at the Jajira point of the bridge around 1.30pm.
Thirteen out of 19 spans, each weighted 3,140 tonnes, were installed, in current year, said Humayun Kabir, an engineer of the mega project.
Another span is expected to be installed in the last week of this month, he expressed hope on Wednesday.
Work on the country’s largest bridge till date started in December 2015. The structure started becoming visible with the installation of 150-metre span on pillars 37 and 38 on October 30, 2017.
The 6.15-kilometre bridge will have 41 spans, each 150 metres long.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Oct 17 said the construction work on the Padma Bridge will be completed by June, 2021.
