BNP leaders are paying rich tribute at National Memorial on Monday (Dec 16)

Liberation War was initiated with the unwritten declaration of former president Ziaur Rahman, says BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

His remarks came after paying rich tribute at National Memorial in Savar on Monday (Dec 16) morning.

Expressing deep regret, the senior BNP leader claimed that the wife of Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, too, was “confined and tortured” by the Pakistani occupation force during the Liberation War.

“Now, she [Khaleda] has been kept in prison,” he added.

Claiming the country has become totally undemocratic even after 49 years of it independence, Fakhrul said, “The spirit of the Liberation War was [to build] a democratic state and social system.”

“Nowadays, all democratic rights have been taken away. People have even been deprived of the least civil rights,” he added.
