A number of BNP leaders in Sylhet including the city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury have decided to resign from the party’s central committee expressing dissatisfaction over the newly formed Jubo Dal committees.
BNP Chairperson’s Advisor MA Haque, Tahsina Rushdi Luna and microcredit affairs secretary Abdur Razzaque, central committee member Shariar Hossain Chowdhury are among the leaders
They were expected to tender their resignation to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday (Nov 2).
The decision came at an urgent meeting on Friday (Nov 1) day after BNP’s youth affiliate Jubo Dal announced the Sylhet city and district units’ committees.
Claiming the new committees are given in line with instructions from London, Mayor Arif said, “Leaders, who have been facing torture and oppression, did not get the reward in it.
“So, around 8-10 leaders will step down from the party’s central committee,” he added.
Central committee member Chowdhury echoed mayor Arif saying they failed to resolve the issues, which is why they are going to quit.
“After we quit, leaders of other BNP affiliates will follow suit,” Chowdhury added.
