Seven to die for pickup driver murder in Faridpur

A court in Faridpur sentenced seven people to death over the murder of a pickup truck driver killed five years ago.
District and Sessions Judge Md Selim Mia delivered the verdict on Thursday (Oct 10). The convicts have been slapped with a fine of Tk 10,000 each.
The convicts are Tofa Molla, 26, Polash Fakir, 32, Siddik Khalasi, 36, Ershad Matubbor, 32, 'Suruj' alias Sirajul Khan, 27, Naim Matubbor, 35, and Anu Molla alias Anwar Molla, 28 all hailing from Bhanga Upazila's Chandra Village.
Among them, Naim and Sirajul are on the run while the rest were present in court when the verdict was delivered.
According to the case documents, Keramot Hawladar pickup driver from the district’s Bhanga Upazila North Lohardia village went missing on Dec 14, 2014.
His decapitated body was recovered from a nearby swamp the next morning by the police.
On Dec 15, Keramot's brother Ikram Hawladar filed a case against seven people with Bhanga.
Police arrested Tofa after police went through Keramot's mobile phone and traced a call back to him.
He later confessed to the killing and revealed the identities of his accomplices who were arrested subsequently. Police pressed formal charges against them on Dec 7, 2015.
