Unidentified assailants have hurled crude bombs in a gathering of BNP candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul in Rajshahi leaving five injured.
The incident took place at around 11am Tuesday when Bulbul was exchanging greetings with voters at Sagorpara area of Rajshahi city.
The injured people are Banglavision Rajshahi Correspondent Paritosh Chowdhury Additto and Swapan Kamar, BNP activists Habibur Rahman, Khokon and Kalu.
Police recovered the injured people and sent them to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Prachin Kamar, son of injured Swapan Kamar, told Bangla Tribune, at around 11am, the BNP candidate of Rajshahi City Corporation election Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul was at an election campaign in city’s Sagarpara section. Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu was giving a speech at the campaign when three masked men came along with motorcycle and hurled the bombs and fled the scene, he said.
Quoting the Eye witnesses Prachin added that the assailants had shotgun in their hands. At least five people were injured in the incidents.
BNP Chairperson's Adviser and Former Rajshahi mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu said, “The ruling Awami League’s activists are behind the attack.”
However, Joint Secretary of Rajshahi Awami League Metropolitan Unit Joint Secretary Rezaul Islam Babul has denied the allegation.
Rajshahi Assistant Police Commissioner Iftekher Alam said, "Boalia Police went to the spot after the incident and taken control over the situation.”
