The family of the 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by an intern doctor at Sylhet hospital, claims that the victim was threatened by the perpetrator.


On Monday, police detained Makkam Ahmed Mahi, an intern at the MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, after the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the hospital authorities.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, the school-going victim’s father said early on Monday Mahi raped his daughter, who was attending her grandmother at the hospital.
“Around 1am on Monday, after doing his Ward rounds, Mahi asked my daughter to meet him at his office with her grandmother’s medical files. He then raped her, before threatening her not to tell anyone. Later in the morning, when found her panicked and asked she told us about it,” said the victim’s father.
He said they were preparing to start a case against the intern doctor. “We want justice for our daughter.”
Hospital sources said that the victim’s family went to the hospital director on Monday, when intern doctor Mahi was called in.
According to them, Mahi denied the charges and claimed that the girl tried to seduce him, but he refrained himself.
The hospital authorities have sent the victim to the crisis centre for medical tests as well as reported to the police.
Later in the day, police detained Mahi.
“We have taken intern doctor Makkam Ahmad Mahi in custody. The victim’s family will start a case,” said Senior Assistant Police Commissioner Golam Kauser Dastagir told Bangla Tribune.
The hospital’s Director Brigadier AKM Mahbubul Haque told Bangla Tribune, “Mahi denied the allegation when we sat informally with the victim’s family members.”
The victim has been sent to OCC and an inquiry will be opened on the matter, he said. “The hospital premises are under CCTV camera coverage and I have ordered to collect footage,” he added.
