Police have arrested an intern doctor of Sylhet’s Osmani Medical College Hospital on allegations of raping a teenager, who was attending her grandmother.
Makkam Ahmed Mahi was on-duty on Sunday night when he called the victim to go to his room to discuss about her grandmother and raped her, family members of the victim alleged.
She informed her parents about the incident in the morning when they brought formal charges against the doctor.
Assistant Police Commissioner Golam Kawser Dastagir confirmed Bangla Tribune about the arrest of Mahi.
The victim, a resident of Sylhet, is now admitted to one-stop crisis centre (OCC) and her family is preparing to file a case, he said adding, “We have tightened the security in the hospital.”
The hospital’s Director Brigadier AKM Mahbubul Haque told Bangla Tribune, “Mahi denied the allegation when we sat informally with the victim’s family members.”
The victim has been sent to OCC and an inquiry will be opened on the matter, he said. “The hospital premises are under CCTV camera coverage and I have ordered to collect footage,” he added.
Indicating the complicacy of the incident, he said, Mahi was on-duty in Ward 7 while the victim’s grandmother was admitted to Ward 8.
