On Sept 5, Akbar Shah police in Chattogram arrested three Rohingyas with Bangladeshi passports from the port city’s Kattoli area.An investigation team has submitted a probe report regarding three Rohingyas, who were detained with Bangladeshi passports from Chattogram.
The team, led by Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Shahjahan Sheikh, submitted the report on Tuesday (Sept 17).
In the report, the probe team suggested that departmental action be taken against assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) of Special Branch (SB) in Noakhali, who were suspended for taking bribe while verifying the documents and approving the passport applications.
On Sept 5, Akbar Shah police in Chattogram arrested three Rohingyas with Bangladeshi passports from the port city’s Kattoli area.
The trio had plans to visit the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka for visa.
On Sept 12, ASIs Abul Kalam Azad and Nurul Huda of DSB were sent show cause notice.
On Sept 14, the ASIs were suspended, as they could give satisfactory response to the notice. Later, the investigation team was formed and asked to submit a probe report within five days.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Alamgir Hossain said: "The probe report proved that the DSB officials were negligent, inefficient and failed to stop the Rohingyas from getting the passports.
"The report will be reviewed and the officials will be given a seven days time to re-explain themselves."
He added: "Based on their response, we will take further action. If they fail to clarify themselves, departmental action will be taken against them."
