Suspected robber killed in Gazipur ‘shootout’

A man has been killed in Gazipur in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 2.30am on Wednesday (Sept 18) in the district’s Sreepur Upazila, said the elite police unit.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Masud Parvez, who was wanted for several charges, including murder and robbery, according to law enforcers.
On a tip-off of a robbery in progress, a raid was conducted at Satkhamair Bazar of the Upazila, said Assistant Director Kamruzzaman of RAB-1.
“Sensing RAB’s presence, the robbers opened fire. They fled when the RAB members retaliated. One of our constables, Sohrab Hossain had to be given first aid for injuries sustained during the raid. Later a bullet-hit man was found at the scene and sent to the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex,” said the senior RAB officer.
Sreepur hospital’s on-duty doctor Mahmud Hasan said that the Parvez was brought in dead at the hospital around 4am.
The body has been sent to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy, said Sreepur police OC Liakot.
RAB said a pistol and seven other firearms, including six shotguns, were found at the scene.
Parvez was wanted in 11 cases, including for multiple murders and robberies, filed with different police stations in Gazipur, according to law enforcers.
