The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been given the responsibility to investigate the allegations of gang rape of a woman by a sub-inspector (SI) and his informant.The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been given the responsibility to investigate the allegations of the gang rape of a woman by a sub-inspector (SI) and his informant.
The case documents was handed over to the PBI on Friday (Sept 6), confirmed Jashore police Additional Superintendent Salahuddin Sikder.
Meanwhile, PBI has received the documents and Sub Inspector Monayem Hossain has been given charge of the investigation.
“After receiving the papers, I’ve visited the scene, spoken to the victim and investigating a few other things,” SI Hossain said and added that evidence related to the case has been collected.
On Wednesday (Sept 4), a woman filed a case against SI Khairul, in-charge of Gorpara police camp and his informant Kamruzzaman, accusing them of entering her house with two others and gang-raping her on Tuesday (Sept 3).
She said that they came to her demanding payment of Tk50,000 to release her husband from police custody.
According to her statement, her husband used to be a drug mule but was now a farmer. On August 25, Khairul came and picked up her husband and later demanded Tk50,000 for his release.
Following her rape, she decided to file a case in this regard. When she went to Jashore General Hospital for medical tests in the morning, reporters in the district came to know of the incident.
However, the name of chief accused SI Khairul, the in-charge of Gorpara police camp, was removed from the case. He has been suspended from his post and attached to the police lines for "investigative reasons".
Meanwhile, police arrested Kamrul, Abdul Latif from Lakshmanpur area and Abdul Quader in relation to the case. Another anonymous person has also been accused.
Jashore Additional Superintendent of police, Salahuddin Shikder, said: "A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter. To catch the anonymous accused, we have asked the court to place the three arrested on a five-day remand."
