Police have arrested two people after raiding the office of Azmeri Osman, the son of deceased Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Nasim Osman in Narayanganj in connection with a case filed for extortion.
Shahadat Hosen Rupu, president of Narayanganj District Students Society and Mokhlesur Rahman were arrested on early at around 12:15 am on Friday (Sept 6), confirmed Narayanganj Sadar police OC Asaduzzaman.
According to locals and police, a joint team of Narayanganj Sadar Model police, Fatullah Model police and Detective Branch of police conducted the raid at the office on Allama Iqbal Road.
Azmeri is the nephew of current Narayanganj-5 lawmaker Selim Osman and Narayanganj-4 lawmaker Shamim Osman.
“Azmeri Osman and his associates tried to extort Tk 2 million from Narayanganj City Corporation conductor Bacchu Mia,” OC Azaduzzaman said.
“His associates tried to abduct Bacchu but failing to do so, they beat him up,” he said.
He added that following the incident Bacchu filed a complaint with the police after which they conducted the raid.
“Azmeri Osman left the office immediately after seeing the police raid on the CCTV camera,” he said.
The OC added that the arrestees have been sent to court and they were trying to catch the rest of the accused.
