Teknaf Jubo League leader murder suspects killed in ‘shootout’

The incident was reported late Friday (Aug 23) night in a hilly area near Jadimura Rohingya camp area in Teknaf upazila’s Hoyaikong, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Shah and Md Shukkur, who police said were accused in Teknaf Jubo League leader Mohammad Omar Faruk murder case.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Jadimura Rohingya camp late Friday night. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, some miscreants opened fire on them. In retaliation, police had to fire back, triggering the shootout,” said Teknaf police Officer in Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das.
“Two bullet-riddled bodies of Rohingyas were found on the spot and were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex. Doctors at the hospital referred them to be admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital,” said OC Das.
“The two Rohingyas were declared dead when they were taken to the hospital,” he said.
The OC added that two locally made firearms were recovered from the scene.
